About: Careful copy of selections from the commentary by ʻAbd al-Razzāq al-Qāshānī (d.1330?) on Ibn ʻArabī's Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam followed by Ibn Abī Jumhūr's (d. after 1499) Kitāb al-Mujlī or Mujlī mirʼāt al-Nūr al-munjī, a supercommentary upon his own kalām work, Maslak al-afhām fī ʻilm al-kalām and its commentary, al-Nūr al-munjī min al-ẓalām (seemingly incomplete transcript with commentary, likely that of the copyist). | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 932
Origin: As appears in colophon on p.36, transcription of opening selections completed 8 Jumada I 1359, corresponding to 14 June 1940 and 7 Baʼūnah 1656. Likely copied in Egypt and eventually bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974).
Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 81
Binding: Boards covered in black textured cloth with black leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in pale pink and green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "قانون الاشراقيين" ; overall in fairly good condition.
Support: Lined / ruled wove paper.
Script: Ruqʻah ; compact hand in a thin to medium line (line thickness changes) ; serifless and freely ligatured with slight effect of tilt to the right, mainly closed counters, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots.
Layout: Written in 26-28 lines per page.
Collation: Two pages between sections of opening selections left blank (see pp.12-13) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
Colophon: [Sharḥ Fuṣūṣ al-ḥikam] "Scribal," reads "تم نسخه في الثامن من جمادى الاولى احد شهور سنة ١٣٥٩ الموافق للرابع عشر من يونيو ١٩٤٠ وللسابع من بؤنه ١٦٥٦"
