Ikat cover with printed cotton lining, Central Asia, second half 19th century
Malzemeler ve teknikler
Printed cotton lining
Fiziksel açıklama
Ikat cover is constructed from many short lengths of ikat pieced together, in two ranges of pattern and colour. The central panel is predominately a very deep blue, its pattern formed by blocks of red and large and small cypress trees in white, running in alternating directions and linked by wavy lines. It is enclosed by a very wide border of highly coloured ikat pieces; on a red ground there are blue, green, yellow, white, purple and various gradations in shade of these colours. The pomegranate is the most prominent of various motifs. The ikat has a silk warp and cotton weft; some of the pieces are glazed. The cover is backed with a printed cotton, red, blue and green in a floral pattern.
