Wool Cotton Weaving
Fiziksel açıklama
WARP: brown wool; Z3S; 15 threads per inch (56 per dm). WEFT: white cotton; Z3S; mostly 2 shoots after each row of knots but varies from a single shoot to wedges of eccentric weft with 6 shoots; varies from 11-13 knots per inch (44-54 per dm). PILE: wool; 11 colours: red, light red, very light red, dark green, green, light green, dark blue, blue, light brown, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around two threads; average 90 knots per sq. inch (average 1372 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: repaired, probably in the Museum, in which case they would have restored the original finish, which was 2 cords overcast with dark blue wool in the lower half and blocks of red, green, dark blue and light brown in the upper half. END FINISH: Lower: 1 cm plain weave then 4 rows of blue and red soumak and an imcomplete fringe (max. length 15 cms) with a maximum of 9 rows of off-set knotting. Upper: incomplete but evidence of 2 cms plain weave with 9 passes of white cotton and then the remainder with white wool; there is soumak at the lower end and a fringe with a max. of 8 rows of off-set knotting. DESIGN: Field: dark blue ground heavily decorated with six angular medallions along the central axis; 5 are framed with a white greek key pattern on black (the diagonals become zigzags) and the 6th (which is third from the lower end and larger than the others) is outlined in red and white blocks. Among the many motifs scattered across the ground are animals (inc. camels) and a pair of seated figures at the top which are reminiscent of Persian paintings; there are also three other pairs of stylised human figures and rosettes and geometric motifs. There is a band across the very top of alternating chequered octagons and rosettes. Main border: white ground with horned rectangles containing mainly rosettes or octagons. Inner border: reciprocal diamond heads in dark green (faded to bue)/red. Outer border: reciprocal diamond heads in blue/red.
