A small square of woven wool, probably belonging to a band for a tunic. Egyptian, ca. AD400-600. The centre has a red figure with hand raised and possibly holding a shield. This icon is within a red square and is bordered with red scrolling waves. All on a white background. Selvedge on either side; double warp; S-spun. The raised hand is an ancient symbol of blessing.
