Woollen pile carpet. WARP: white wool; Z2S: 24 threads per inch (100 per dm) depressed. WEFT: light red wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 10 knots per inch (40 per dm). PILE: wool. 8 colours: dark red, red, light red, yellow, green, blue, dark brown, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 threads; 120 knots per sq. inch (2000 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: 1 cord oversewn with wool in blocks of various colours. END FINISH: Lower: upper 1.5 cms. of plain weave with brown woollen weft with 2 incomplete rows of weft twining in white/brown and red/blue. DESIGN: Field with a brown ground with 9 offset bands of approximately 8 angular botehs, their secondary colouring alternating to give a diagonal pattern across the field. BORDERS, from the centre: (1) white ground with stylised rosettes and stylised flowers on a stem at the top and bottom. Along the sides the flower becomes a hexagon and the sides bear tiny red buds on a blue stem. (2) brown ground with double floral meander on a yellow stem. (3) as (1) but on a light red ground. (4) as (2).
