ملاحظات Fragment of a linen cloth, with a roundel (65mm dia.), tapestry-woven in purple wool and undyed linen (approx. 30x26 tpc; differing thread dia). Egyptian, ca. AD300-500. At the centre is a lion within a circle. At either side of the circle are leaves coming off long stems. The side decorations are not symmetrical. The piece has a number of holes and is stained.

Fiziksel açıklama Tapestry woven roundel in purple wool and undyed linen thread, from a tunic. A large area of the surrounding plain woven linen ground fabric remains. The slit-tapestry woven decoration depicts a medallion enclosing a lion facing left, on a false hatched background. At either side of the medallion are three vine leaves coming from straight stems. Details are picked out in flying thread brocading in undyed linen thread. The piece has a number of holes and is stained Plain weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 30/cm) Linen weft (S-spun, approx. 26-28/cm) Tapestry weave: Linen warp (S-spun) Wool weft (Z-spun) Linen weft (S-spun)
