Woollen carpet used as saddle cover. It is of irregular shape with bands to fasten round the chest of the horse. The design shows a red ground with many bands of small flower heads and botehs linked by a meandering stem. The botehs are all white and the flowers are in bands in blue/ yellow or blue/white. Down the flanks the pattern is reduced to only the blue flowers and botehs. The border is of yellow ground with double floral meander with small pink botehs and blue and white flowers. The inner and outer borders have blue ground with double floral meander. WARP: white cotton, Z4S, 31 threads to the inch (130 per dm). WEFT: white cotton, Z4S, one shoot after each row of knots, 14 knots to the inch (60 per dm). PILE: wool, ten colours: dark red, with abrash towards the bottom, red, yellow, green, blue, purple (faded), pink, brown, black and white. Symmetrical knot tied around two threads, 217 knots to the sq. inch (3900 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: one thick cotton cord has been added all around and over sewn with red wool. END FINISH: lower and upper warp ends were cut and then over sewn with the loose cord.
