Fiziksel açıklama
Turkish, Kula prayer carpet WARP: white wool; Z2S; 12 threads per inch (47 per dm); depressed in places, perhaps because the knot has been pulled sharply to the left? WEFT: cream wool; Z2S; fairly regular variations in the number of shoots after each row of knots: a) 1 shoot of 2 parallel threads (b) 2 shoots of single threads (c) 3 shoots of single threads; (a) and (b) tend to alternate, with some (b) in between; 7 knots per inch (27 per dm). PILE: wool: 9 colours: dark yellow, yellow, dark green, light green, light blue, very light blue (faded to off white), light brown (has probably faded from something else), black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 42 knots per sq. inch (635 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: 2 cords overcast in blocks of variously coloured woold. END FINISH: Lower: missing but with maximum of 6 shoots of yellow weft; Upper: missing but with 4 shoots of yellow weft. DESIGN Described as woven. Field; light blue ground with long, rectangular panel in dark green with triangular niche at lower end. Outlined by a white border with a line of dark yellow sprigs. From the niche rises a 'tree' of 3 columns of dark yellow star-like blossoms with white centres. From the sides and along the top spring lillies (3 flowers on a dark brown stem). Outside the panel, the field is decorated with bands of small light green triangles 'capped' with dark yellow (debased bowls of flowers?). These form a single column on either side of the panel and 2 bands along the upper edge. There is a band beyond the field's lower edge, it contains 5 stems each bearing 3 dark yellow lillies on a dark green ground. BORDERS: There are seven, described from the inside: (1) which also isolates and surrounds the lower panel: yellow ground with angular paired S-motifs in various colours. (2) black ground; on the 2 sides it has an arabesque meander in various colours; at the ends there are paired angular S-motifs in various colours. (3) and (5) white ground with small dark yellow floral sprig. (4) and (6) black ground with similar sprig. (7) same as (2) including the variations at the ends, but on dark yellow ground.
