ملاحظات A roughly cut fragment from a linen tunic, including the end corner of the clavus (Egyptian, ca. AD300-600). Tapestry woven coloured wool and undyed linen. The linen tunic has been decorated with woollen woven bands alone the selvedge. The clavus section (20mm wide) is bordered with scrolling waves of undyed wool; a small tree is formed of green and brown wool; and a long floral motif is formed of undyed wool. The band across the base (38mm wide) is of a red wool background and undyed wool in the shape of thick semi circles. Two lines of running stitch, 12mm apart, run beneath the motifs. Along the base is the scrolling waves pattern. Wool thread dia. approx 0.2mm; s spun. Linen tunic thread dia. approx. 0.2mm - 0.5mm; 17x20 tpc. Bands are created across the linen by weaving three warps tightly together to create four stripes in a band. The two bands seen on this fragment are 25mm apart. The selvedge is created with approx. 7 of these stripes.
