A fragment of a tapestry woven woollen band or panel. Egyptian, ca. AD600-800. Slit tapestry. Many colours (yellow, black, blue, white, red) on a red background. The top half of the piece has two elaborately, dressed figures. A Coptic inscription runs above their heads. The bottom half shows a Biblical scene of Joseph and Mary holding the baby Jesus. They may be sitting on a horse. There is an inscription above their heads. There are holes in the piece and it is dirty. One edge is selvedge.
