Fiziksel açıklama
Fragment of tapestry woven undyed linen and purple-brown dyed wool. Traces of the surrounding plain woven linen ground into which this panel was originally woven can be seen. The fragment has been secondarily sewn onto another plain linen backing, which is not so fine (warp: 20/cm, weft: 14/cm). The slit-tapestry woven decoration depicts a plant border on the left, with leafs creating stylised medallions enclosing several figures of hares. Beside this is a seated enthroned figure, surrounded by four smaller figures, one in each corner. The figure in the bottom right corner is holding a wreath of victory aloft. Details are picked out in flying thread brocading in undyed linen thread. The separate area in the lower left of this piece, which also depicts stylised medallions enclosing hares, is in a horizintal orientation rather than vertical, and is a slightly different colour. It probably did not originally belong to this piece. Plain weave: Linen warp (S-spun, 37/cm) Linen weft (S-spun) Tapestry weave: Linen warp (S-spun). Two threads, occasionally three, plied together. Wool weft (Z-wpun, about 65/cm) Linen weft (S-spun)
