The Seven Mu'Allaquat, or 'Suspended Poems'. These are so called because traditionally they are said to have been written in letters of gold, on account of their excellence, and hung in the Ka'bah at Mecca. Copied by William Tweedie, probably in Baghdad, 1889, in Arabic with parallel English commentary. Headings in red are poets' names (followed in title page by descendance). Poets in order of appearance (also on piece of paper added to manuscript): f.2 Imruʾ al-Qais f.17 Tarfa f.36 Zuhair f.48 Labid f.65 'Amr ibn Kulthum f.84 'Antara bin Mu'awiya f.98 Al-Harith ibn Hilliza Ends with conjugation page of verb "to do". This order is different from other known versions although there is no standard version.
