Composed in Gujarat (India) and written in Persian, this poem describes the holy Islamic sites of Mecca and Medina, where the Hajj pilgrimage takes place every year. Painted in bright colours, the diagrammatic maps illustrate seventeen different locations for the Hajj ritual, including the Ka`ba sanctuary in Mecca. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, blind-tooled leather covers, 64 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with illuminated heading (fol. 1v, sarlawh), and 17 painted maps and diagrams throughout, Revelations of the two Holy Sanctuaries (Futūḥ al-Ḥaramayn), by Muḥyī al-dīn `Abd al-Raḥmān al-Lārī al-Anṣārī (d. 1527), poetic description of the Hajj pilgrimage routes and the holy sites of Mecca and Medina, original text dedicated to Muẓaffar Shāh II of Gujarat (r. 1511-1526), unsigned, possibly Iran or India, undated, c. 1525-1550.
