Örnek Metin Kashkul, by Shaykh Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad `Āmilī (d. 1621). One of the great intellectuals of Shah `Abbās’s court in Isfahan, Shaykh Bahā’ī was the shah’s leading religious authority. He was a scientist and a poet, and a well-travelled scholar of Islamic law. Entitled Kashkul (the beggar’s bowl), Bahā’ī’s famous anthology gathers entertaining works of poetry, stories, quotations and mathematical proofs. Codex, ink, colours and gold on paper, 144 folios, Persian text in nasta`liq script, with illuminated heading (sarlawh, fols. 1v, 53v, 90v) and leafy gold-painted margins (fols. 1v-2r), Kashkul, literary anthology by Shaykh Bahā’ al-Dīn Muḥammad `Āmilī, known as Shaykh Bahā’ī (Baalbek 1547-1621 or 22 Isfahan), copied by Muḥammad Masīḥ, probably Isfahan, Iran, dated Dhu’l-Hijjah 1076H, June 1666.
