Notlar Collection is open for research.Founded in 1966 in Havana, Cuba, The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America was a Cuban political movement dedicated to the global fight against political oppression and imperialism. Its acronym (OSPAAAL) is based on the Spanish version of the name: Organizació́n de Solidaridad de los Pueblos de Asia, África y América Latina. Global in scope, OSPAAAL had representation in over 80 countries. Most active during the 1960s and 1980s, OSPAAAL helped the spread of revolutionary ideas through the publication of Tricontinental magazine and political posters. These posters typical included information in English, French, Arabic, and Spanish and often focus on a day or week of solidarity with peoples combatting oppression or fighting for independence.Copyright interests for this collection have not been transferred to the Trustees of Indiana University.

Kapsam/içerik This collection consists of political posters produced by the Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America (OSPAAAL). Roughly half of the posters treat the topic of government resistance, political solidarity, and anti-imperialism in Latin American countries between the founding of OSPAAAL in 1966 and approximately 1987, although some of the posters date to the early 2010s. The remaining posters treat similar topics for countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and the United States. Roughly ten posters cover multiple countries, the history of OSPAAAL, or fall outside of a specific geographic location. The collection features the work of over a dozen artists and designers, but the most commonly represented are Cuban artists Alberto Blanco (1955-2023), Rafael Enriquez, and Spanish-Cuban artist Rafael Morante Boyerizo.
