Notlar The photograph was taken in the context of an article printed in Cumhuriyet with the title, ‘First Turkish ship made on special initiative’. The young woman cutting the cord is Miss Beliks, daughter of the lawyer Etemin Belkis, who financed the vessel’s construction. In Cumhuriyet, the ship was hailed as the first of its kind constructed on Turkish initiative. - A young woman in an elegant dress, gloves and a hat, cuts a cord releasing a bottle to the bow of the ship.
