Ottoman script was in use in the Turkish Republic until 1928. - The well-known storyteller (meddah) Aşki Efendi is sitting on a wooden bench in a kahvehane , looking at a newspaper he is holding with both hands. The text is in Ottoman script. Aşki Efendi is wearing a fes , a wide collarless jacket made of the same material as his trousers, a collarless white shirt, and a handkerchief around his neck. He is sitting between two marble-topped tables with his elbow propped on the one to his right, which is covered with more newspapers.
