Notlar	The photograph was shot in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take place in which part of town and at what time. The exercise on Beyazıt Square envisaged that an enemy squadron had dropped red and white gas bombs. Military personnel were to intervene, render first aid to the injured and transport them to medical facilities. - A team of people in gas masks are transporting a man on a stretcher in the direction of the camera on Beyazıt meydanı . Some are in uniform, others in protective clothing with Turkish Red Crescent brassards. The man on the stretcher is being given mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. In the background, a large cloud of smoke is drifting through the alley.
