Notlar	The photograph was taken in the context of an article printed in Cumhuriyet with the title, ‘First Turkish ship made on special initiative’. The ship was financed by the lawyer Etemin Belkis and was hailed by the newspaper as the first boat of its kind constructed on Turkish initiative. - A crowd of people, including workers as well as elegantly dressed men in bowler hats, is gathered on deck and around the hull of the steamship ‘Belkis’ to celebrate her maiden voyage. The name of the ship is written in capital letters alongside the quarterdeck. The ship is decorated with bunting as well as with a large Turkish flag.
