Notlar	The photograph was shot in the context of two articles that appeared in Cumhuriyet in August 1939 reporting on military defence operations against air raids and chemical weapons attacks. An Egyptian army delegation led by Major General Hasan Hüsnü Ezzeydi attended the manoeuvres as guests. Cumhuriyet covered the military exercise in great detail, announcing which action was to take place in which part of town and at what time. - Two people in white protective suits and gas masks are leaning over a half-naked man lying on a stretcher in a cobbled lane, positioned in the lower right corner of the picture. They are surrounded by a large group of men observing the scene. Some are in uniform of different sorts, some in civilian clothing, wearing suits and ties. Three of the men in the front row, with the best view of the stretcher, sport a fes . Two uniformed men at the right margin of the picture are also wearing gas masks.
