Notlar Majnūn, emaciated and clad only in loincloth, is seated in the wilderness under a large tree. Reclining about him are wild beasts and waterfowl along the stream. On the further bank facing Majnūn sits Laylā, four maids standing behind her. The nearer one salutes Majnūn, her hand raised to her forehead, the second carries a large peacock plume, and the third holds a scarf in her hands, while the fourth (dark-skinned), whose head only is seen, stands behind the other two. Laylā is wearing acoli(tight fitting bodice) and a figured skirt. On her head is a large conical-shapedmukuta(crown) withsarpes(plume). She also wears akeyura(armlet), and amala(necklace). In the foreground, where Majnūn sits, recline a gazelle, a tiger and a lion; on the other side of the stream recline an antelope and its mate. Along the bank are herons, cranes and ducks. In the background are high rocky hills and a large river seen to the right with a heavily forested bank. Cranes fly across the sky and songbirds can be seen in the tree above Majnūn. The sky is dark.
