The text of the 'Kanem war of Idris Alooma' is the one procured by the traveller Barth in 1853 and sent by him to the British Foreign office, as was its companion ms. 'A history of the first twelve years of the reign of Mai Idris Alooma' ... Many of the others are anonymous and some may be said to represent merely oral tradition."--Pref.
