Notlar Ms. codex., Title from opening (fihrist) on fol.1b., Incipit: [fihrist] "الحمد لله وكفى وسلام على عباده الذين اصطفى وبعد فلما يسر الله تعالى اتمام كتاب الاشباه والنظائر الفقهية على مذهب الحنفية المشتمل على سبعة انواع اردت ان افهرسه في اوله ليسهل النظر فيه" [al-Ashbāh wa-al-naẓāʼir] "الحمد لله على ما انعم وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد وسلم وبعد فان الفقه اشرف العلوم قدرا واعظمها اجرا", Explicit: "حتى جعلوه على رأس شجرتين فتقطع نصفين رحمة الله عليهم اجمعين قال مؤلفه هذا اخر ما اوردناه من كتاب الاشباه والنظائر في الفقه على مذهب الامام الاعظم ابي حنيفة النعمان رضي الله عنه وارضاه الجامع للفنون السبعة التي وعدنا بها في خطبة الفريد في نوعه بحيث لم اطلع له على نظير في كتب اصحابنا رحمهم الله وكان الفراغ من تأليفه في مدة [كذا] ستة اشهر كذا ذكر المؤلف رحمه الله تعالى", Colophon: "Scribal," rectangular, reads: "وكان الفراغ من تعليقه في اليوم الخامس والعشرين من شهر رمضان المبارك سنة الف واحدى وتسعين من الهجرة النبوية على صاحبها افضل الصلوة والسلام علقه لنفسه ثم لمن شاء الله من بعده الفقير الى ربه العظيم القاهر احقر العباد عبد القادر بن الشيخ محمد صالح عفي عنهما وغفر لهما واحسن الهيما والحمد لله رب العالمين والصلوة والتسليم على صفوة المرسلين وسلم", Collation: V+1 (11), IV (19), IV+1 (28), 11 IV (116), II (120), III (126); chiefly quaternions; middle-of-the-quire marks appear in the form of oblique strokes in the upper outer corner of the left hand leaf for nearly every quire apart from the first and third; catchwords present; for fol.74b-75a (p.148-149) catchwords do not fully match, though with no apparent missing text; foliation in red ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals, first appears on eleventh leaf with "11" (lost from first ten leaves and occasionally thereafter due to trimming and pair repairs); foliation mistakenly skips from "۴۰" to "۵۰" at fol.40-41 (p.79-81) though with no apparent missing text; pagination in pencil, Western numerals., Layout: Written in 31 lines per page; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board is evident)., Script: Naskh ; fine Indian or Persianate hand ; partially seriffed with occasional left-sloping serif on alif of lām alif ligature and serif on alif of lām alif mukhaffafah resembling numeral nine; both closed and open counters; kāf mashkūlah preferred over mabsūṭah (even final kāf) ; slight effect of words gently sloping to baseline; occasional dipping and sweeping tails on final ʻayn, khāʼ, ḥāʼ, etc. ; incipit page (fol.1b) is supplied in a smaller, more graceful naskh in a finer line, virtually serifless with broadly sweeping tails on final yāʼ and nūn (though very similar to hand of main text and likely supplied by same copyist); colophon is in a seriffed taʻlīq, with right-sloping head serifs on the letters alif and lām., Decoration: Illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān / sarlawḥ) accompanies opening on fol.1b, damaged with some loss; consists of narrow rectangular piece surmounted by scalloped dome within scalloped w-shaped piece; rectangular panel contains an empty cartouche flanked by vegetal designs in black on a field of gold; dome carries vegetal/floral design in gold, pink, and lavender on a field of blue surrounding a smaller semi-circular piece in pink, green, and lavender; the w-shaped piece bears vegetal/floral design in blue, pink, lavender, green, white and black on a field of gold bordered in pink and white; flanking the w-piece are two semi-circular pieces resembling upturned domes in blue, pink, and lavender; above the w-piece a blue fillet with small tīgh-like stalks follows the scalloped border and two elongated, plant-shaped pendants in lavender and dark blue stand at the cusps (recesses); decorative frame in gold surrounded by blue fillet throughout; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas appear in opening, colophon; text rubricated with section headings, overlinings, textual dividers, some notabilia, etc. in red., Support: non-European (likely Persian or Indian) laid paper, quite thin and brittle with laid lines running horizontally and spaced roughly 9 laid lines per cm. and many undissolved fibers; no chain lines are clearly visible though may be some evidence of rib shadows, difficult to see; page repairs are in a different laid paper with roughly 6 laid lines per cm. and possibly grouped chain lines, oriented in various ways to suit the repair; brittle paper has led to much page repair and loss of marginalia., Binding: Pasteboards covered in a variety of leathers: dark red (covers, darkened substantially, and envelope flap), bright red (spine, cover edges), dark brown or black (fore edge flap); Type II binding (with flap); board linings of non-European paper; upper and lower covers carry gold-stamped central mandorla, pendants and corner pieces filled with a vegtal pattern of vines and flowers; vegetal design of mandorla is lacking chi clouds and symmetrical about the horizontal axis, but not well represented in the Déroche typology beyond the very general "OSh"; envelope flap carries smaller gold-stamped mandorla and corner pieces of the same design; in fair condition., Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 168, Origin: As appears in colophon on fol.126a (p.251) copied by ʻAbd al-Qādir ibn al-Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣāliḥ. Transcription finished ("wa-kāna al-farāgh min taʻlīqih...") 25 Ramaḍān 1091 [ca. 19 October 1680]., Lacking in marks of possession, though evidence of some obliterated statements (including possible ownership marks, etc.) is partially visible on the reverse of fol.1, now obscured by a stabilizing leaf and other repairs adhered over top; collation marks in the form of "بلغ" appear in the outer margin of the final leaf of nearly every quire (excepting the first three and final two, though repairs may have obscured them); numerous marginal corrections (including correction of cacographic errors marked with "ن", variants marked with bāʼ hindīyah, etc.), some even appear to be in hand of copyist and are bounded by a frame identical to that of the main text; much notabilia, often in decorative shapes and rubricated; many glosses., Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 1019
