Written in medium small naskh in black ink with use of red for the commented text ; partly vocalized ; yāʼ for alif maqṣūrah. Soft dark cream paper, glossy, with laid lines and a few chain lines (in groups of 2 or 3) visible. Ḥāshiyah on the margin. Fol. 1 consists of a later leaf pasted on the recto of an original leaf. Table of contents on fol. 1a. Loose leaves.Collation: Paper, fol. 137 ; 1-13¹⁰ 14⁴ (-1 at end of quire) ; catchword on the verso of each leaf.Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "SH 407" (repeated on fol. 1a). Both covers have a similar gold- and blind tooled decoration (gold wanting), with a central large roundel outlined by impressions of a semi-circular stamp, and filled with a geometrical pattern developing from a six-pointed star. The central panel is outlined by fillets, with the inner corners filled by impressions of the same semi-circular stamp. The large outer border consists of a running pattern with a floral motif. Edges wanting or covered by repairs. Embossed leather doublure. Damaged, poorly mended, loose. - Commentary on the Alfīyah by Ibn Malik (Muḥammad ibn ʻAbd Allāh, d. 672/1273) by his son, Badr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad (d. 686/1287), on grammar. The text proper is followed by verses of poetry written by different hands (fol. 134b-135a, the second mentions al-Shāfiʻī, and is signed ʻAlī al-Baṣrawī, Damascus), and by a short text described as "Faṣl fī dhikr baʻḍ muʻjizāt al-nabī" (fol. 135b-136b), itself followed by two verses of poetry in praise of the Prophet Muḥammad attributed to al-ʻAbbās ibn Mirdās and by a long ḥadīth as reported by Ibn al-Jawzī and Ibn ʻAsākir.
