Fol. 1 is a later addition, with several inscriptions, including a title.Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the fore-edge of the enclosing box: "al-Ṣiḥāḥ bi-khaṭṭ Yāqūt al-Malikī 584".Origin: Copied by Yāqūt ibn ʻAbd ʻAllāh (colophon, fol. 324b). Collation statement dated 584 H. [1188 or 9] on fol. 324b. Collation statement on fol. 88a and 324a, stating that the text was collated on a copy written by Abū Sahl al-Harawī (corresponding to the collation notes in red ink).Incipit: الحمد لله شكرا على نواله والصلاة على محمد وأاله اما بعد فاني قد اودعت هذا [الكتاب] ما صح عندي من هذه اللغة الذي شرّف الله منزلتهاExplicit and colophon: قال الشاعر [---] لا يلقحن الا يعارة عرضا ولا يشين الا غواليا [324ب] تم باب الراء من كتاب الصحاح فى اللغة وبتمامه تم الجزء الاول من الكتاب ويتلوه بمشية الله تعالى فى الجزء الثاني باب الزي والحمد لله حق حمده وصلواته على سيدنا محمد النبي وآله الطاهرين تحياته وبركاته [---] العبد الفقير الى رحمة ربه ياقوت بن عبد الله حامدا لله سبحانه مصليا على سيدنا محمد النبي وآله مسلما - Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers are similarly gold and blind tooled, with a central panel with central roundel developing on the vertical axis into a flower motif. The border consists of a running patterns and fillets, with gold. Envelope-flap apparently later replacement. Fore-edge flap modern repair. Modern paper pastedown and free endpaper. - Elegant copy of the first part of a lexicon arranged according to the last letter of each root, comprising the text from Alif-Alif to Yāʼ-Rāʼ. According to the colophon, this copy was written by Yāqūt ibn ʻAbd Allāh [al-Malikī al-Mawṣilī], a famous copyist who died in Mawṣil in 618/1222. A note by a later hand on fol. 324b suggests erroneously that the Yāqūt ibn ʻAbd Allāh mentioned in the colophon would be al-Ḥamawī, the historian who died in Aleppo in 626/1229. The text is followed by a poem on fol. 325b.
