Notlar Ms. codex.Title from fol. 2a.Copied by Ḥasan bin ʻAlī al-Ghazzālī, a pupil of Shaykh Sharaf al-Dīn Yaḥyá al-Muṭawwasī [?] al-Shāfiʻī, and completed on the 17th of Shaʻbān 971 (1564) -- colophon (fol. 305b-306a).19 lines per page. Written in medium small naskh in black ink with use of red, green and gold ink for rubrication (ff. 2b-3b also have blue watercolor for rubrication). Text is within a frame outlined for most of the text with two lines of red ink. On ff. 2b and 3a the frame is in gold leaf outlined in black ink and blue watercolor, and on ff. 3b-6a, 305b and 306a in gold leaf outlined in black ink only. Illuminated titlepage (fol. 2a) consists of a frame in gold leaf outlined with black ink and blue watercolor, a floral motif head piece in gold and blue with title in gold ink (ʻunwān), and a circular medallion in the centre, also in gold and blue, with author's name in gold ink. Illuminated head piece on fol. 2b, also in gold leaf and blue watercolor. Dark cream glazed paper with visible laid lines and prominent fibres. Foliation in Arabic numerals in black ink and Western numerals in pencil.Incipit: الحمد لله الذي شرف طابه وشوق القلوب لسماع اخبارها المستطابة ... وبعد فقد شغفت باخبار الحبيبةExplicit: قال الهجرى ومرّ يين طريق اي يسلك هناك الي يين والله صبحانه اعلم تم الكتاب المبارك بحمد الله وعونه ... وصلي الله علي سيدنا محمد واله وصحبه وسلم - New binding in red leather with envelope flap. Covers have a gold tooled panel design made with gold guilloche and fillets around borders, four floral corner pieces, blind stamped and painted in gold and brown, and central mandorlas with pandants, also blind stamped and painted in gold and brown. Same design on envelope flap. Gold fillets around borders on fore-edge flap. Pastedowns and lining to envelope flap in blue and red marbled paper. Lining to fore-edge flap in brown leather. All three text block edges decorated with a running floral motif painted with gold and red ink. - A history of Medina, an abridgment of the author'sTabiʻat wafāʾ fī tārīkh al-Bayt al-Muṣṭafá. According to a note transmitted from the author at the end of the text, the work was completed on the 15th of Shawwāl 893 (Sept. 22, 1488) -- fol. 305b.
