Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "14".Copy completed on 17 Jumādá al-Awwal 746 [Sept. 15, 1345] by ʻĪsá ibn Ayyūb ibn ʻĪsá al-Buṣrāwī thumma al-Najrānī al-Shāfiʻī, muʼadhdhin at the Jāmiʻ al-Ṭāhirī in Ṣafad (colophon, fol. 228a).Collation: Paper, fol. 230 ; 1¹⁰ (-1) 2-22¹⁰ 23¹⁰ (+1) ; catchword on the verso of each leaf ; the quires are numbered using Arabic ordinals in the form "al-Thānī min al-awwal" (see fol. 10a) ; there is a change in the numbering of the quires from fol. 179a, where it starts to have the form "Thāmin ʻashar awwal al-Tahdhīb" (with "Thāmin ʻashar min al-awwal"! on the preceding quire, fol. 170a).Incipit: الحمد لله خالق المصنوعات وباريء البريات ومدبّر الكاينات ... امّا بعد فانّ لغة العرب لما كانت بالمحلّ الاعلى والمقام الاسنى وبها يعرف كتاب رب العالمينExplicit: وقال سعيد بن عامر ما رايت رجلا افضل من يونس واهل البصرة يتفقون على هذا وهذا اخر الجزء الاول من كتاب تهذيب الاسماء واللغات ... يتلوه النوع الثاني من الكُني من التهذيب الاسمآء واللغات للشيخ الامام العالم العلّامة محيي الدين يحيي شرف بن مري النواوي رضي الله عنه وارضاه - Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Both covers have a similar scalloped central blind-tooled pattern within a panel defined by several fillets with an elaborate outer border. Similar border on the envelope flap, with a circular motif on its point. Brown leather doublure.
