Light cream paper with laid and chain lines visible. Marginal annotations. Two verses of poetry attributed to ʻAbd al-Qādir al-Kīlānī on fol. 1a. First leaves worm-eaten, with loss of text. Extremely fragile.Two spine labels with inscriptions, respectively "Sharḥ Mukhtaṣar Ibn Ḥājib" (in Arabic script) and "296" (in Arabic and Western numerals).Copy completed on 15(?) Jumādá al-Ākhirah 821 [July, 1418] by Muḥammad ibn al-sayyid ʻAlī ibn al-sayyid Raḍī al-Dīn al-Ḥusaynī (colophon, fol. 169a). Collated by Muḥammad ibn ʻUmar al-Ḥalabī (collation statement dated 8 Shaʻbān 824 [Aug. 8, 1421] on fol 169a, margin).Incipit: الحمد لله الذى وفقنا للوصول الى منتهى اصول الشريعة الفرّآء ... وبعد فكما ان المختصر للشيخ الامام ... ابن الحاجبExplicit: الى غير ذلك من التفاصيل وهذا معنى قوله فيما ذكر ارشاد لذلك والله الهادى الى سبيل الرشاد والمسئول لنيل العصمة والسداد وهو حسبى ونعم الوكيل نعم المولى ونعم النصير - Brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Both covers are similarly blind-tooled, with a large frame consisting of fillets and a running pattern of a floral motif. The central panel, defined by fillets has a large central lobed oval motif with a floral decoration and two pendants on the vertical axis. Edge-pieces with a floral motif. Portion of the same blind-tooling on the envelope flap. Embossed leather doublure on envelope flap and lower cover (cut). Fore-edge flap and spine mended. - Gloss on a commentary by ʻAḍud al-Dīn al-Ījī (d. 756/1355) on Mukhtaṣar al-Muntahá, an abridgment by Ibn al-Ḥājib (d. 646/1249) of his Muntahá al-suʼāl wa-al-amal, a treatise on Malikī law.
