Inscriptions on title page including an extract from Kashf al-ẓunūn about the work.Collation: Paper ; fol. iii + 258 + (1) ; folios signed: 1-26 ; catchwords ; modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.Layout: 29 lines per page.Description: Overwriting in red ; some vowel signs ; edges trimmed ; watermarks (three crescents; hills with cross) ; MS in good condition but worm-eaten and mended; several folios stained with dampness.Origin: According to colophon copy completed Tuesday 18 Ṣafar 1147 by Saʻīd ibn Aḥmad Tammān (fol. 258b).Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم. بديع بيان لايحتذى مثاله ومنيع تبيان لا يختطى مناله ... اما بعد فهذه بث لما وقر في صدري من العلوم الفاخرة ...Colophon: وکان الفراغ من نسخه يوم الثلثاء 18 من صفر سنة 1147 على يد افقر العباد الى الحنان المنان سعيد بن احمد تمّان لطف الله بهما وبالمسلمين اجمعين امين - Later type II (with flap) binding in greenish-brown leather. Color-stamped mandorla surrounded by gold-tooled and dot-punched design, gold-stamped cornerpieces and blind-tooled edging on covers. Similar decoration on flap. Gold-stamped design on flap fore-edge. In slipcover of brown leather and marbled paper (290 x 200). - An encyclopedia discussing a hundred and fifty sciences. The work is divided into four sections : (1) The merit of knowledge, teaching and learning; (2) the relation of the pupil to his master and his tasks; (3) duties and conduct of the master; (4) the relationship between the way of speculation and the way of elucidation.
