The text is known under several titles and attributed to a variety of authors:1) al-Farāʼid wa-al-qalāʼid: attributed to Abū al-ḥusayn al-Ahwāzī (Brockelmann, GAL, I, 95, a; S I, 153, e), Abū al-ḥasan Aḥmad ibn al-ḥasan al-Ahwāzī (Berlin 8708), al-ḥasan ibn ʻAlī al-Ahwāzī (Arabic manuscripts in the Yale University Library, 494), Muḥammad ibn al-ḥusayn al-Ahwāzī (Index général des manuscrits arabes musulmans de la Bibliothèque nationale de Paris, p. 327), Nashwān ibn Saʻīd al-ḥimyarī (Cairo² III, 270; Fihrist al-makhṭūṭāt al-muṣawwarah, I, 505, no. 630), Qābūs ibn Washmgīr (Wien 1838/1) and al-Thaʻālibī (Brockelmann, GAL, I, 339, no. 20; S I, 501, no. 21; Fihris al-kutub al-mawjūdah bi-al-Maktabah al-Azharīyah, V, 201; printed in Cairo, Muṣṭafá al-Bābī, 1327/1909, with title: Kitāb al-Amthāl al-musammá bi-al-Farāʼid wa-al-qalāʼid).2) al-Fawāʼid wa-al-qalāʼid: attributed to Abū al-ḥasan (Abū ʻAlī al-ḥasan ibn ʻAlī ) al-Ahwāzī by ḥājjī Khalīfah, Kashf al-ẓunūn, col. 1303, who knew this work only from a quotation in Ghazzālīʼs Naṣīḥt al-mulūk. However, in Jalāl al-Dīn Humāʼs ed. of Ghazzālīʼs work (Tehran, 1351 H. sol./1972, p. 163) our text is called Farāʼid wa-qalāʼid, and the author Abū al-ḥusayn al-Ahwāzī.3) al-Qalāʼid wa-al-farāʼid: attributed to al-Ahwāzī (without further data) in ms. Paris 4811 (Index général des manuscrits arabes musulmans de la Bibliothèque nationale de Paris, p. 539); the ms. Berlin 870 with the same title is anon.4) ʻIqd al-nafīs wa-nuzʹhat al-jalīs: cf. Brockelmann, GAL, S I, 501 (no. 21), S I, 830(7a), S II, 907(17).5) Without title: Fihris al-makhṭūṭāt al-ʻArabīyah al-maḥfūẓah fī al-Khizānah al-ʻĀmmah bi-al-Rabāṭ al-Fatḥ, 2nd ser., 1968 (Taʼlīf fī al-adab), attributed to Abū al-ḥasan ʻAlī ibn al-ḥasan al-Ahwāzī.6) Yafīmat al-dahr: attributed to Abū al-ḥusayn Aḥmad ibn al-ḥusayn ibn ʻAlī (Fihrist al-makhṭūṭāt al-muṣawwarah, I, 557, no. 60: ms. Nuru Osmaniye 4374); the attribution of Berlin 8709/2 and Garrett 217 (Brockelmann, GAL, S II, 1014, 17) agrees with that of the present ms.As has been already pointed out in the Leiden catalogue, no. 451, al-Thaʻālibī quotes from the present text in his Siḥr al-balāghah (ed. Aḥmad ʻUbayd, Damascus, 1350/1932, p. 200); the author is called by him Abū al-ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn al-ḥasan al-Ahwāzī, and the title Farāʼid al-qalāʼid. al-Qifṭī mentions this work in his al-Muḥammadūn min al-shuʻarāʼ (ed. H. Muʻammarī, al-Riyāḍ, 1970) in the biography of Abū al-ḥasan Muḥammad ibn al-ḥasan al-Ahwāzī (no data are given) p. 204: ... وله کتاب الدر وکتاب القلائد والفرائد وله فصول منثورة تجرى مجرى الامثالThe quotation in Ghazzālīʼs Naṣīḥat al-mulāk (cf. above, sub 2) is not found in the present ms.Incip.: ... قال الوزىر السىد ابو الحسىن بن احمد ... الحمد لله العلى الکبىر القوى القدىر
