Wear with loss of text on the first leaves ; loose leaves.Collation: Paper, fol. 241 ; 1¹⁰ (-1 at beginning of quire) ; 2-23¹⁰ 24¹² ; catchword on the verso of each leaf (some cut off).Origin: The copy is not dated, but the waqf statement on fol. 1a gives a terminus ante quem of 856 H. [1452].Incipit: بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ما توفيقى الا بالله عليه توكلت قال الله احمد على طريقة اياك تعبد تقديما للاهم وما يقال انه للحصر لا دليل عليه والتمسك فيهExplicit: ضروب التخفيف او فى على ان يتسع وتبقى ضعيف ولو لا ذلك لكان الحذف مما تعذّر فيه الادغام اولى كما تبيّن بالاستدلال وانما هو اولى من يتسع ويبقى باعتبار شدوة بهما والله اعلمAt the end of the text, poem written vertically by another hand as the main text, beginning as follows: رفع اللثام فلاح تحت لثامه - Loose quires placed in a binding consisting of two dissimilar covers bound together by a crude leather spine. The upper cover consists of golden brown leather over paper pasteboards with a central blind-stamped and gold-tooled scalloped mandorla, with a gold outline developing into pendants on the vertical axis; the elaborate outer border consists of blind-stamped and gold-tooled fillets, a running pattern, and a guilloche. The lower cover consists of brown leather over paper pasteboards (re-used paper; inscriptions visible), with a central blind-tooled roundel filled with a geometrical design and an elaborate outer frame consisting of fillets and a running pattern with floral motif; traces of now wanting gold-tooling. Embossed leather doublure. Edges and parts of covers badly damaged. - Commentary on al-Mufaṣṣal, a treatise on grammar by Maḥmūd ibn ʻUmar al-Zamakhsharī (d. 538/1144).
