Written in large naskh in black ink with use of red; the text is vocalized. Headings on margin in larger script; text-stops in red and black: black dot outlined in red at the end of each entry, "h" in red for sub-sections. Dark cream paper, glossy, with pulp visible. Fly-leaves in European paper with watermark in vol. 2. Quires numbered using Arabic ordinals in vol. 1. Edges of some leaves mended. The last leaf of vol. 2 (fol. 265) is mended with loss of text.Origin: According to colophons, copy of Juzʾ 1 completed on 25 Ramaḍān 703 [May 1, 1304] by Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn al-Faḍl ibn Yaḥyá ibn al-Ḥasan [ib]n Ṣadaqah (fol. 284a) ; copy of Juzʾ 2 completed on Friday, 22 Rajab 709 [Dec. 26, 1309] by the same copyist, [---]ḍl ibn Yaḥyá ibn al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣadaqah ibn ʻAlī ibn Ṣadaqah (fol. 265b, partly wanting).Incipit vol. 1 (1920Y): بسم ... رب يسر واعن باب الفاء من كتاب الصحاح فى اللغة فصل الالف اثفت القدر تاثيفا لقة فى ثفيتها ... [2أ] بدى على فعيل وبادى بدء على فعلIncipit vol. 2 (1921Y): الحمد لله شكرا على نواله والصلاة على محمد واله اما بعد فانى قد اودعت هذا الكتاب ما صح عندى من هذه اللغة التى قد شرّف الله منزلتها ... [2أ] وانف الجبل نادر يشخص منه - Modern binding. Quarterbound in burgundy paper and leather. - Complete copy of a lexicon arranged according to the last letter of each root. The first volume appears to begin with the first leaf of Juzʾ 2 (Bāb al-Fāʾ), followed by the original fol. 2 (with the end of B D ʾ). See end of Juzʾ 1 (fol. 284a): ends with H Y GH, with colophon stating that Juzʾ 2 will start with Bāb al-Fāʾ. The second volume starts with the first leaf of Juzʾ 1 (Bāb al-Alif al-mahmūzah), followed by the original fol. 2 (with the end of A N F). See also the waqf statement at the front of each volume.
