Prefaces and poem 1 on blue paper, poem 2 on white, poem 3 on salmon, poem 4 on green, and poem 5 on indigo. Text bordered by blue and gold lines, with outer marginal gold line; columns separated by double gold lines. Text occasionally written on a diagonal. Catchwords. Fol. 234-5, 288, 329-30, 344, 34, 353-357 have been mounted on thin machine-made paper. Some paper repairs and marginal damp staining. Otherwise in good condition.Decoration: Elaborately illuminated ʻunwāns in gold and colors mark the two prefaces and each poem; titles in white on gold ground. On fol. 7b-8a, text embellished with floral pattern in gold and color, and margins decorated with gold and color foliar pattern. Text on first two pages of remaining poems set within clouds on gold ground. Headings in white on gold ground decorated with floral pattern. Similar pattern in gold and color is used to fill spaces around diagonal text.Decoration: Thirty-five miniatures of good quality from the same period as the ms. Two are full-page (fol. 6b-7a) and are set within gold, maroon, blue, and orange frames with margins decorated with gold floral pattern. The first miniature is signed Raqam-i [...] ʻAlī-Riḍā ʻAbbāsī sanah 1[0]82 H [?].Origin: Prefaces written in Rabīʻ I 1054 H [April 1644] (fol. 3a); copy completed around same time. Original text completed 206 years prior (fol. 2b), i.e. 848 H [1444 or 5]. - Lacquered binding painted with flowers, likely 19th century. Lacquered doublures in red with gold and green floral pattern set in a blue and gold frame. - The author's five epic poems, in imitation of Niẓāmī Ganjavī's Khamsah; illustrated with 35 good-quality miniatures of the 17th century. The two prefaces were written specifically for this copy, which was made for Murtaḍá Qulī Khān (fol. 2b). Likely a unique copy.
