Notlar Ms. codex.Physical description: 15 lines per page, in 1-2 columns; written in nastaʻliq in black on thin glazed, laid Arabic paper. Horizontal text set within blue and gold frame; marginal, diagonal text set within larger outer gold frame. Columns framed in gold. Light smudging and staining, and a few paper repairs to the inner margins. Incomplete at beginning and end.Decoration: Small, somewhat amateurish, illuminated ʻunwān on fol. 1a in gold, blue, and maroon. On fol. 13b-14a are minatures which have been pasted onto the pages at a later date, likely late 19th century. The first shows a man being hung by four men. The second shows a supplicant kneeling before a king on a second storey while a woman brings a small cow up a ladder; on the first floor two men are conversing.Decoration: The front doublure consists of a sheet of pink paper with gold floral decoration pasted onto a larger sheet of blue paper with black and gold framing. The writing, in shikastah, is likely in the hand of Ḥasan ʻAlī Khān Garrūsī, a well-known civil servant, penman, and calligrapher [1821?-1900]. The back doublure consists of a sheet of white paper pasted onto a larger sheet of yellow paper with black flecking and black and gold framing. The writing, in shikastah, is likely of the school of Qāʼim Maqām, rhetorician and statesman [1779 or 80-1835]. - Cloth over boards with paper doublures. - An incomplete copy of selections from Saʻdī's ghazalīyāt, with two pasted-in miniatures and two writing samples in shikastah.
