The quires of the older part of the ms. are numbered using Arabic ordinals in the form "al-Rābiʻ" (see fol. 83a) or Arabic numerals (see fol. 163a, 173a). Pagination in red ink using Arabic numerals from fol. 13a on (starts with "4" on fol. 13a). Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals.Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "...? 102". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "1635".The oldest part of the ms. was copied on 10 Ramaḍān 869 (colophon, fol. 377a).Incipit: الحمد لله الذي شرف نوع الانسان بالاصغرين القلب واللسان ... فهذا كتاب لم ... احد تصنيفه ولا كلفت القريحة تاليفهExplicit: ومن هاهنا قيل لامير المومنين علي كرم الله وجهه امير النحل والله اعلم قال المصنف ... وهذا ما انتهى اليه الغرض مما يحصل به في هذا الشان الاكتفا وختم بملك النحل الذي استخرج الله منه الشمع والعسل ... منه الشجاعة يقتضى وحسبنا الله تعالي وكفي وصل الله ... اهل المكارم والوفا - Green cloth over pasteboards for upper and lower covers, fore-edge flap and envelope flap. Yellow paper pastedowns and fly-leaves. - Zoological treatise, with descriptions of animals arranged in alphabetical order. The text is followed by two shorter texts on fol. 377b-380a (fol. 377b-378a by another hand). This copy can be divided in two main parts, a later part on European glazed paper with watermark (fol. 1-72) and the core of the ms., on thick paper with laid and chain lines visible (fol. 73-381).
