The commented text is written in red ink, with large gold dots text stops. The text is framed within a border consisting of a large gold line outlined in black. Verses of poetry are separated from the main text by a thin frame of gold outlined in black. Illuminated headipece (ʻunwān) with a floral motif in gold and colors on fol. (iv)b. European paper with watermark. Fol. (ii) and (iii) are fly-leaves on a thinner European paper with watermark. Fol. 414-416: Blank. Catchword on the verso of each leaf. Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals (omits the three first fol. after the first fly-leaf, fol. ii-iv).Description in English pasted on the verso of the first fly-leaf.Inscription in Roman script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "L 178". Both covers have a large central lobed mandorla (floral arabesques on a gold ground), with two pendants on the vertical axis, outlined in gold with radiating flecks and impressions of a small stamp with a flower motif. The outer border consists of a gilt guilloche outlined by fillets. Marbled paper with floral motif pastedown. The recto of the first fly-leaf and the verso of the last are sprinkled with gold. - Elegant copy of the long commentary on the Maqāmāt of al-Ḥarīrī.
