Notlar Ms. codex.Title from title page (fol. 1a). The name of the author appears also in the colophon (fol. 131a).21 lines per page. Written in small naskh in black ink (fading to brown). European paper with watermark. Catchword on the verso of each leaf. The quires are numbered using Arabic numerals, starting with "5" on fol. 2a (see fol. 2a, 12a, 24a, 34a, 44a, 54a, 62a, 73a, 83a, 93a, 101a, 105a, 115a). Several inscriptions with ownership statements on fol. 1a (hardly legible), one dated Ramaḍān 946 [1540] or 996 [1588]. Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals. Inscription on a spine label in Arabic and in Western numerals: "39". First fol. damaged with loss of text. Lower edge of the ms. water damaged and worm-eaten. Some leaves are missing: see between fol. 1 and 2 (fol. 2 is the first fol. of the fifth quire, see inscription on the upper corner) ; between fol. 14 and 15 (see catchword on the verso of fol. 14) ; between fol. 104 and 105 (see catchword on the verso of fol. 104). Fol. 71 and 72 are misplaced. They belong between fol. 61 and 62.Incipit: الحمد لله الذي اوجد بفضله حياة الحيوان وكرم بني ادم بمزيتي العقل والبيان ... اما بعد فيقول العبد ... محمد بن ابي بكر المخزومي الدماميني ... لما كانت الخدم تتوسل باهدا طرق الفوايدExplicit: فاختمه كما بداته بذكر اعظم سلاطين الزمان ... [131أ] ... وجمل الوجود ببقاء دولته العادلة وايامه ... بمنه وكرمه آمين الهم صلى على سيدنا محمد وعلى ال محمد وسلم والحمد لله رب العالمين انتهى المختصر - Brown leather over paper pastedowns for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a central blind-stamped mandorla and an outer frame made of two fillets. - Abridgment of Ḥayāt al-ḥayawān al-kubrá by Kamāl al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Mūsá ibn ʻĪsá al-Damīrī al-Shāfiʻī (d. 808/1405). The text is followed on fol. 131b-132a by three short excerpts, the two first attributed respectively to al-Qurṭubī in his Qamʻ al-ḥirṣ and to Ibn Nubātah. On fol. 132b, ḥadīth written by another hand.
