Thin biscuit paper with laid lines visible. Ḥāshiyah on the margins. The first leaf consists of a later page pasted on the recto of an original folio. Water damage. Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the upper cover: "Uṣūl thānī 14". Inscription in Arabic script on a label pasted on the pastedown of the upper cover: "857/2 ḥāʼ".Copy completed in Harāt in Jumādá al-Thānī 859 [May-June 1455] (colophon, fol. 219a).Incipit: الحمد لله الذي احكم بكتابه اصول الشريعة ... وبعد فان علم الاصول الجامع بين المنقول والمعقول النافع فى الوصول الى مدارك المحصول ... [2أ] ... قوله حامدا لله حامدا حال من المستكن فى متعلّق الباء اى باسم الله ابتدىء الكتاب حامداExplicit: على لفظ وجود العصمة عصمنا الله تع بعونه الكريم عن اتباع الهوى ووفّقنا بلطفه العميم لسلوك طريق الهدى انه ولى العصمة والتوفيق ومنه الهداية الى سواء الطريق وصلى الله على محمد سيّد الانام عليه الصلوة والسلام وعلى آله وصحبه الكرام بفضلخ وكرمه يا ذا الجلال والكرام - Dark brown leather over paper pasteboards for upper and lower covers. Both covers have a blind stamped mandorla with a floral motif with a scalloped border outlined in gold. Outer frame made of blind tooled and gold painted fillets and guilloche. Blue and cream marbled paper pastedowns. Rebacked. - Commentary on Tanqīḥ al-uṣūl by ʻUbayd Allāh ibn Masʻūd al-Maḥbūbī (d. 747/1346), on uṣūl al-fiqh.
