Notlar The letter, which is arranged after the enclosures it discusses (folios 8-10), concerns acts of piracy on the Arab coast, specifically at Guttur [Qatar] and Debay [Dubai]. The letter contains instructions for the dispatch of a British vessel to the Arab coast to deal with the suspected perpetrators of piracy, including Jubbur Rugragree [Jassim bin Jaber Raqraqi], collect compensation, and deal with other matters related to infringements of the maritime peace. The enclosures included with the letter are as follows:1. Substance of a letter (folios 5-6) from Moollah Hoossein [Mulla Ḥusayn], Agent at Sharjah, to Captain Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf, dated 28 October 1840. The letter is a report of a case of piracy that took place off the Qatar coast by Jubber Rugragree and a number of others, reported by Ḥusyan to reside at Bedda [Al-Biddah].2. Translation of a letter (folio 6) from Captain Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf, to Salmin ben Nasir, Shaikh of Beddah [Al-Biddah]. The letter concerns a recent act of piracy committed by residents of Al-Biddah. Hennell commends the Shaikh for his prompt action in apprehending the offenders and stolen property, and reports that he will send a Government vessel to collect the offenders.3. Translation of a letter (folio 7) from Captain Samuel Hennell, Resident in the Persian Gulf, to Shaikh Maktoom [Maktum], Chief of Dubai. The letter relates to recent incidents of piracy and plunder committed by people from Dubai. Hennell writes that he is pleased the Shaikh is prepared to cooperate by paying compensation for the losses suffered with the plunder of cargo, and informs him that a Government vessel is being sent to Dubai to collect the compensation (200 German Crowns). | 6 folios | more | less
