Notlar Letter from Henry Lacon Anderson, Secretary to Government, Bombay to Captain Felix Jones, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, 24 February 1859 acknowledging receipt of the narrative of events of the War with Persia, drawn up by Lieutenant Herbert Disbrowe and sent to the Governor in Council in Bombay 2 December 1858.The report, written by Lieutenant Herbert Disbrowe, Assistant Resident in the Persian Gulf, at the request of Captain Felix Jones, Resident in the Persian Gulf recounts the Residency's involvement and knowledge of the War with Persia 1856-1857, particularly with regards to events in Bushire.The report is written chronologically and covers the period 4 September 1856 to 10 December 1857, and includes excerpts from despatches, proclamations and correspondence to illustrate points and provide further insight into events. The report describes the arrival of the advance fleet at Bushire; the occupation of Karrack [Khārk, Jazīreh-ye]; the establishment of the British Camp near Halilah [Heleylah]; the Persian Army's camps at Mohumra [Khorramshahr] and Burazjoon [Borazjan]; the British army's victory at Khooshab; the attack on the Persian Army at Mohumra; the conclusion of the war; the impact of mutiny in India; and the Resident's ongoing responsibility for Bushire following the signing of the treaty and prior to the arrival of Ahmed Khan, as Governor of Bushire in November 1857.The report commences mid sentence on folio 2, which was marked as page 5, suggesting that there may be four pages (two folios) that are no longer with the report. | 66 folios | more | less
