Notlar Letter regarding the situation in Cabul [Kabul], Kandahar and Herat, including Russian involvement in the area and asking for any news or information from Pelly in Teheran [Tehran] on the Persian view of the situation as well as discussing the British position in Persia, particularly with regard to Bushire and Baghdad.The letter also gives Merewether's opinion on the possibility of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere departing India, and his hopes that Lord Clarendon's decision to request that Frere remains is in relation to the Bombay Governorship.The letter concludes by discussing the extra troops that are arriving in Sind and expressing a wish that John Jacob could have lived to witness it. | 2 folios | The contents of the letter are written down each page from folios 263-264, the paper has then been turned horizontally and the text has been written across the page, over the existing writing on both sides of folio 263. | more | less
