Notlar The letter is a covering letter, enclosing a Government circular relating to the fall of Sebastapool [Sevastopol]. The printed copy of the circular (no.3359 of 1855), dated 13 November 1855, draws attention to a copy of a letter, included on the same printed page as the circular, from F Courtenay, Private Secretary to the Governor General, to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Bombay, dated 6 November 1855. Courtenay’s letter announces the fall of Sevastopol, requesting that a proclamation (enclosed with the original letter) be printed and published as widely as possible in English and any vernacular languages. Notes in the margins of Anderson’s letter indicate that the Residency received 500 copies of the Proclamation in Persian, 200 in Arabic, and 100 in English. | 2 folios | more | less
