Notlar The letter is a covering letter, forwarding correspondence (folio 295) from Captain Arnold Burrowes Kemball, Political Agent in Turkish Arabia, addressed to Jones and dated 25 September 1856, relating to the handing over to the Turkish authorities in Basra of a vessel carrying slaves and flying Turkish colours, captured by the British authorities. Kemball states that the vessel is in the hands of the Turkish authorities, pending reference to Constantinople, and that the Firman quoted by Jones in his previous correspondence in the matter is the most recent and up-to-date. Enclosed with Kemball’s original letter was a letter under flying seal, addressed to Commodore Richard Ethersey, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf Squadron, relating to disbursements for the cost of conveying the captured vessel to Bussorah [Basra]. | 2 folios | more | less
