Notlar The letter relates to the recent maltreatment of the British Agent at Sharjah, Hajee Yacoob [Hajji Yaqoob], by some inhabitants of Sharjah. Kemball reports that sufficient reparations have been obtained from Sheikh Sultan ben Suggur [Sultan bin Saqr]. Kemball also suggests that the sons of the late British Agent at Sharjah, Mulla Hussein, might be behind the campaign to smear Yaqoob's name.Enclosed with Kemball's letter is letter no.108 of 1853 (folios 188-92) to Kemball from Commodore George Robinson, Commanding Officer Persian Gulf Squadron, dated 2 September 1853. Robinson reports on his trip to Sharjah in the wake of the maltreatment of Hajji Yaqoob. He reports that the principal offenders have been punished, and that he has spoken to Sheikh Sultan bin Saqr over the affair. Robinson also states his opinion on Yaqoob's temperament, and encloses four witness statements made by Sharjah inhabitants under oath against Yaqoob. | 6 folios | more | less
