Notlar This file contains correspondence between British officials in Baghdad and Kuwait concerning the conditions of Kuwaiti pearl divers. The correspondence is related to a proposal for Kuwaitis to be employed as boat pilots on the Shatt al-Arab waterway that was made by the British Embassy in Baghdad in October 1934 (folios 2-14).The file also contains two unrelated pieces of correspondence concerning an idea to allow the use of modern pearl diving equipment by 'local Arabs' that was suggested by the Political Resident, Lieutenant-Colonel William Rupert Hay, in February 1947 (folios 15-17). | 1 file (16 folios) | The papers are arranged in approximate chronological order from the front to the rear of the file. | Foliation: the main foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 18; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is present in parallel between ff 3-17; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled. A previous foliation sequence, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out. | more | less
