Tarih 13th century
Notlar Recto: letter, c. early 13th century, from Yeḥiʾel the judge b. Elyaqim, to his youngest son’s teacher Yefet, instructing the recipient to teach his son to read a page from all four directions. His mother is to be told to ensure the boy recites the blessings and does the ritual washing, and to forbid him from playing outside with his friends lest the cold and rain make him ill. The writer is away from home, having travelled to Minyat Ziftā, Egypt, to help the Jewish community there. If a debt is called in during his absence, Ismaʿīl al-Ṭulaṭuli has undertaken to cover the amount until the writer returns. Greetings are also sent to [...] the disciple ‘son of the judge’, the orphan Abū l-Bayān, Samuel Rašīd, and Yešuʿa and his brother. Greetings are also sent from the writer’s companion, Abū l-Faraj, to his family. Verso: various jottings in Judaeo-Arabic. | Condition: holes | Layout: 28 lines (recto); jottings (verso) | more | less
