Notlar The letter is part of Jones’s continuing discussion with the Government in Bombay about measures to suppress the maritime slave trade from Zanzibar to the Gulf. The letter contains discussion what Jones calls the lack of ‘moral responsibility’ of traders carrying slaves from Zanzibar; the payment of bounties to parties recovering slaves; a contradiction within the treaty of 2 October 1845 with the Imam of Muscat, which Jones argues is being exploited to allow slaves to the imported into the Arabian Peninsula; the introduction of slave trade patrols around Zanzibar to circumvent the exploitation of terms of the Muscat treaty. | 2 folios | more | less
