Notlar The letter reports that the Resident's communication to the Shaikh of Bahrain has been delivered via his son. It reports that the letter was acknowledged and a letter sent to Rasal Khima [Ra's al-Khaymah]; the British are chasing up information on British women believed to be held at Rasal Khima, along with information on some copper, which was possibly plundered by pirates. Some of the details from the reply to this letter are included within. Also contained within the letter is a very brief report on the poor state of the HC Cruizer Vestal. The item contains three enclosures:1. A copy of a letter from Lieutenant R Watson to the Shaikh's son, no date. The letter asks for information on when the Lieutenant can expect a reply to the letters delivered from Bushire from Rasal Khima,.2. A copy of a letter from Lieutenant R Watson to Shaikh Abdallah [Shaikh ‘Abdullāh bin Aḥmad], dated 11 April 1819. The letter is reminding the Shaikh of his promise to write to Rasal Khima, and requests a notification for when he has done so; the Lieutenant would like a reply as quickly as possible.3. A copy of a letter from Lieutenant R Watson to Shaikh Abdallah, dated 19 April 1819. The letter states that the terms of peace between the British and Rasal Khima, as established by the Captain of the Mercury, are 'null and void'. It explains it is the people of Rasal Khima that are suing for peace, and that the author cannot envisage any peace terms being agreed to that do not include all British subjects. | 3 folios | more | less
