Notlar Letter regarding His Excellency the Viceroy (Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 2nd Baron Lytton)'s letter on the German alliance and giving Burne's thoughts and opinions in general on him, including that he attempts to keep up too much correspondence and depends on other people's opinions of him.The letter goes on to discuss the lack of official support being received from the India Office; Lord Salisbury (Robert Gascoyne-Cecil)'s official statements in which he has attempted to remove Lord Lytton (Robert Bulwer-Lytton) from affairs entirely and Burne's failure to understand why he has not simply publically acknowledged Lord Lytton's carrying out of his duties and orders as instructed by Her Majesty Queen Victoria. The letter goes on to inform Pelly that he will be returning to England in April, and that he intends to retire as soon as he can.The letter concludes by discussing the Ameer [Amir] of Cabul, Shere Ali [Sher Ali Khan]'s continued grievance against the Government of India over Quetta; and informing Pelly that he has arrived in Calcutta and has seen Charles Umpherston Aitchison there. | 6 folios | more | less
