Notlar Letter enclosing copies of correspondence between Charles Umpherston Aitchison and the Maharaja of Puttiala [Patiala] (Mohindar Singh) in relation to the Maharaja's interference in Dholepore [Dholpur] affairs.Enclosures:Letter from Mohindar Singh, Maharaja of Puttiala to Charles Umpherston Aitchison, 16 December 1873, regarding his sister's original wishes in regards to Dholepore and her new wishes as the original resolution and current administration were not working following the appointment of a Political Agent there.Letter from Charles Umpherston Aitchison to the Maharja of Puttiala, 12 January 1874, in response regarding the Viceroy's decision to appoint Major Thomas Dennehy as Political Agent in Dholepore and their hopes that the state would prosper under his guidance and that the young chief of Dholepore's education and welfare would also be well cared for. | 2 folios | Conservation: The correspondence was original tied together with red & yellow wool, which was removed in order to enable the letters to be read, and has been placed in a plastic sleeve. The correspondence, and original wool tie have instead been placed in an acid-free paper folder to keep them together. | more | less
